The AI box above the Google results

Google now writes its own answer above the search results. That is where it is decided whether anyone still clicks through to you.

What ECHO measures there

For your questions, ECHO checks whether the box appears at all, whether it names you and whether it credits your website as a source. Three separate figures, because they are three separate things.

Where Google shows no box, there is nothing to win there. Those questions are excluded from the other two figures, and «no box appeared» is a reading for us, not a failure.

EvidenceFor a Swiss B2B client, Google shows an AI answer to a good half of the questions we measured. It names the client in one out of twelve. Competitors are cited instead. That is a pilot finding, not a study.

Why the box gets a card of its own

In the cockpit the Google box stands on its own and is never averaged in with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. It is a search result, not a chat.

A shared headline figure would drop the moment you switched the Google measurement on, without anything having changed in the market. A number that reacts to a setting instead of to reality is not a metric.

EvidenceOur own Swiss figure is above: the box appears for a good half of the questions we measured for one client. In Germany the rate sits at 75.6 per cent across 500,000 queries (Peec, 04/2026).

Limits that belong here

  • The measurement is switched on per project and does not run by default.
  • One Google query counts like any other query against your allowance.
  • The fact watch covers the four chat services and the Google AI box.
